Essex Garage

A restored "1950's" Texaco Staion with a petro memorabilia collection, a
Nascar collection, antique motorcycles and cars. The still original
building consists of two smaller buildings brought from another site,
actually a nearby motel, and joined together here in 1938 by Jim Morse
Sr., the owner and proprieter of the "Essex Marine Base". Some of the
petro memorabilia was here or was obtained from local town residents. The
station was ran as a gas station and repair shop until the mid 1980's, when
the marina was sold by the Morse family. The building was restored and
repaired in the early 1990's and since then has been utilized as a
functioning gas station and display for collectibles. The original repair
"pit" still exists and in the basement was found many model T Ford parts,
some of which have been traded for petro memorabilia. The original Texaco
fuel pumps, Texaco sign and "Esses Marine Base" sign, painted by local
artists Sid Couchey can still be found in the garage.
